Accommodation choices

Accommodation choices

We are very excited to now be able to offer a number of houses which can accommodate people with more complex needs.

We have also recently applied for Ofsted registration for 16 to 18 yr olds as part of the national standards to regulate unregistered accommodation for older children. This will form part of the registered framework and inspection for us as a provider.

This will be mainly learning disability of low to medium needs. We have had very good feedback from this new direction so far. We have very good staff base to explore and develop this area. Our staff are highly trained in this with a wealth of previous knowledge and experience. Each house will be carefully matched to ensure that the individuals needs are equally matched much in the same as in the young vulnerable young person’s houses. Each staff member will also be matched to the needs of the persons in each house.

Rela will work with the person and professionals to support in maintaining and developing all aspects of life. This could include employment, education, leisure pursuits managing your tenancy agreement, developing friendships, developing social skills, variety of daily living skills, benefits, finances, emotional support, and much more. All will be to an individual’s needs. This will be completed by way of support plans, risk assessments to enable the best support plan and package for individual needs. This will hopefully develop the skills needed to live as independently as possible in your own home or your family home.

We will endeavour to provide a service whereby they will receive the support that is needed to assist them in developing skills and enabling them to reach and achieve goals, outcomes and aspirations.

We will offer a range of support from respite care to some floating support the choices are individual and can be discussed. It is very important to Rela to get the best support possible for each individual as we thrive in the achievement of the people, we support no matter how small.

We will work together as a team with you, your family, advocates, Social Services, Education service, and any persons that you want involved. Rela plans to remain small to enable the personalised care and support that we currently supply. We pride ourselves on the support and progress of many young people that have achieved good results whilst with us. These can vary from being able to live independently in a safe manor to leaving us to attend university.

We have a selection of houses that can cater for the individual needs of the young people who are need of placement. We have houses in a few areas which are : Gillingham, Chatham, Rochester, and Gravesend.

We have options of other houses in other areas dependent on the requirement of the individual young person. These can be discussed to meet individual needs and requirements.

We have been working with young people since 2006 and have worked with over 250 young persons referred to us by several Local Authorities from all over the different counties. Our specialist experience, combined with our empathetic approach has enabled us to support our young people including those grappling with extremely challenging behaviour, trauma of all types, persistent offenders, and/or drugs / alcohol dependency, with significant success.

Rela provides a safe environment for young men and women where they are able to thrive and overcome their personal difficulties and move on to a brighter future.

Most of our houses are shared with other young people however we have a matching policy to ensure the risk of clashing of young people’s personalities are reduced.

We have sole placement houses which can cater for the more specialist support including Dols and other court orders.

All our houses have live in staff who are all trained to a high standard and will attend regular training to enhance knowledge. Staff are very friendly and trained to a high level. They will treat the young person with dignity and respect. They will support the young people with day to day living support including financial, medication, cooking etc.

Some young people require different level of support which we also can cater for i.e. extra waking night, disturbed sleep, extra staffing ratio to the young person.

We have specialist key workers ranging from behaviour management, autistic spectrum, animal therapy to name just a few. All young people will be allocated a named key worker or more if needed. All key working sessions will be on a one-to-one basis. We have resources to bring in outside specialist’s support if and when required, which range from education to mental health specialist etc.

We also have facilities for emergency admissions. We will ensure that the emergency admission has full support of their needs. We recognise that these admissions can be quite traumatic for the young people and care givers involved. We at Rela understand the difficulties that this may cause the young person. We will do everything possible to reduce these anxieties which will arrive from this.

We deliver our services to young people using core elements of the Quality Assessment Framework (QAF), as follows:

  •  Assessment and Support Planning
  •  Security, Health and Safety
  •  Safeguarding and Protection from Abuse
  •  Fair Access, Diversity and Inclusion
  •  Client Involvement and Empowerment

Continuous service improvement is embedded in Rela’s daily operations. This is reflected in each of our units which continue to evolve on the basis of the various needs of the young people that we look after. We have been praised on more than one occasion by practitioners as being proactive, responsive and exceeding client expectations. The young people are and always will remain our primary clients, but we also recognise that the various teams that we interact with within each local authority are our secondary clients and no less important.

All Rela’s accommodation units are of high quality and will ensure that the needs of the young person are met. These will be discussed and arranged prior to the young person coming to placement unless they are an emergency admission where this can be discussed further or the placement planning meeting.
