For the people we support

How will I know when I'm ready to live independently?

We help you assess and monitor the progress you are making and work with you in areas that you need support. We record the progress you make so you can see how much you have achieved!

How will I get the support I need?

You will have a key worker allocated to you, who will visit you daily and support you in gaining the skills that you need, help you to fill out forms and accompany you on appointments.

How will I budget my money?

We give you practical advice on how to manage your weekly allowance and help you claim any benefits that you are entitled to.

What's in it for me?

We recognise that difficulties that young people face and we offer help and support when you need it but also allow you to have the right amount of independence and respect.

What if I don't get on with the people I live with?

Regular house meetings are held to discuss any issues that may arise, in extreme cases young people can move from one property to another.

Support with accommodation

Rules is what most people we support want to hear about first. What you can and can’t do is important to us too as we want to get your support right and ensure your feel safe and secure when you are supported. We have some rules and regulations to keep the people we support, staff, other people and professional safe.

Social-interaction Difficulties

All people we support have different needs and requirement which will be implemented and explained before you arrive. There are sometimes other curfews that have been implemented by the courts, police bail conditions or due to safeguarding etc and explained before you arrive. So, with this in mind the curfew at our placements which include accommodation will vary depending on what is required by law and the individual’s needs.

We have strict no smoking policy in all areas of the house for all of our placements with accommodation. We will endeavour to make arrangements for a designated smoking area which will not be on the property.

We have a zero tolerance of illegal drugs being taken or brought into the house.

We encourage the people we support not to enter each other’s bedrooms. There is a communal area for all young people to socialise with each other.

All the windows and doors will have security attachments to them however this does not mean you are locked in the house at any time. This is for security reasons.

There may be different rules and requirements if there are court orders.

Local to the area

We have chosen our properties in areas where there is good transport links, educational facilities, leisure facilities and good amenities.

Your room

You can put posters on the wall within reason and must be with blue tack or something the doesn’t mark, stain or damage the wall or wallpaper.

It’s your room, staff will have to go into your room to carry out safety check on the request of a social worker or other professionals like the police. We have to carry out fire safety checks, welfare checks and safety of electrical equipment.

We will talk to you about this, and you can be present unless it’s in an emergency situation where we need to enter your room to ensure the safety of others.

We expect you to keep your room tidy and this will be part of the learning independence. Staff will support you to achieve this if needed.

What to expect from staff

Staff will work with you to gain some independence and life skills to aid you in the future. You will have a live in staff member at all times. You will also have a key worker. She will work on a one to one basis with you working on a range of things which will be tailored to meet your individual needs and requirements. Your staff will support you with shopping, budgeting skills and menu planning on a weekly basis. Live in staff will support you with cooking and using the kitchen equipment safely. You will be expected to clean after you have used the kitchen with support from staff.

Your key worker will complete a getting to know me when you first arrive. This will enable you and her to get to know each other. She will book you onto a local doctor, dentist etc.

Staff will also complete a couple of other forms when you first arrive. One of them being an inventory. This is important as it will let the staff know what you came into placement with. Also, when you bring new things into the house, so we know these belong to you.

Staff are very friendly and trained to a high level. They will treat you with dignity and respect. They will expect the same from all of the young people in the house.

Sometimes there will be a staff member who comes into the house at night times this is called a night staff. Sometimes they will stay awake to ensure that you are kept safe during the night whilst the day staff are sleeping and sometimes there are staff that will only wake when and if you need something this is called a sleeping night.

My name is Trina Edwards I am the supported accommodation manager. I am contactable via email trina@relasupportservices.co.uk for any further questions or staff can contact me and I will call the landline should you wish to speak to me when you are in placement. I will come and meet you with in the first couple of days after you have arrived.

Safety and Compliance

Residential Care

Our residential care is the best solution when it comes to long-term care. We suggest residential care to people who require extra care and additional support. Our specialists meet the individuals and carry out an assessment to suggest the specific facilities that are important for their well-being.  In the residential setting, we encourage people with autism to take part in activities and interact with other peers and staff members.  At RELA Support Services, we make sure the individuals are living a life they were accustomed to. We make sure they are comfortable and satisfied with our residential support.

Education

At RELA Support Services, we help individuals learn new skills. We monitor their performance to make sure they are developing their understanding skills with time. We put our efforts into involving them in discussions so that they learn socialising and interacting with new people with ease. We not only teach them in our accommodation but also help them access education. We do a thorough research to find the best possible schools suited for them where they can get quality education. Our aim is to provide them with opportunities so that they can pursue their dreams and goals. We believe that they should be given the same equal chances as anyone else, and make sure they are learning and experiencing something new every day.

Employment Opportunities

With our vast network, we help service users with autism seek employment. At RELA Support Services, we focus on making individuals independent by supporting and guiding them. We strive to guide them in the right direction, where they can utilise their potential to set new targets and achieve their goals. With us, you can rest assured that your loved one will get incredible opportunities to work at their best.

One-to-One Discussions

One of the challenges faced by people with autism is the difficulty to interact and socialise. To help them overcome this, we involve them in discussions where they can share what they feel and what they want. Our specialists have face-to-face conversations with individuals where they are encouraged to tell their stories and how they want their life to be, to make them less hesitant to interact and communicate.
