  3. I enjoy living at the placement and it helps me become independent and shows how to stand on two feet and I’m well looked after. Support to get me onto my college course when I had given up was a constant battle but I’m now going onto my 2nd year  – JG
  4. T was extremely helpful to me everything I needed she did with me, even, arranged meetings to help me even though at times I let her down .I can’t thank her enough and whilst at the same time she was and is a friend. Love ya T.  The house was a safe place to be and had what I needed – KS
  5. Rela support had provided me with a room big enough for all of my stuff. I have my own fridge in my room which means I have my food and drink in easy reach. We have shared kitchen, bathroom and lounge. It has all I need to cook and prepare meals, and constant hot water when I need it. The support worker has helped me with my shopping and is always there if I need help or advice. She takes me to meetings and appointments. She also helped with housing and benefit forms. On the whole living here has been a positive step to living on my own. I want to live here forever. – DG
  6. I think I would be in a different place right now if I had not had the support form my named key worker and support of my live in staff. They have supported me through a very difficult stage in my life and at times I didn’t think they was making my life easier however with the constant support no matter how horrible I was I have now got my own flat, I no longer feel the need to get drunk and look after my self better. I also have a part time job which was found in my key working sessions with my key worker.  – KY

Who are we?

We are a small company that support vulnerable young people until they are able and of an age to live independently. The  house is a large spacious  house that is in a residential area

Rules of the house

This is what most young people want to know first. We have to have some rules and regulations to keep the young people, staff and professionals safe.

All young people have different placement needs and requirements which will be implemented and explained before you arrive . There are sometimes other curfews that have to be implemented by the courts, police bail conditions or due to safeguarding etc. These will all be explained to you and will depend on the individuals needs

We have a strict no smoking policy in all of the houses however a designated smoking area is provided.

We also have a zero tolerance of illegal drugs being taken or brought into the house.
No young people to enter the each other’s bedrooms in the house. There is a communal area for young people to associate with each other. However, this may not be needed if you are in a sole placement

Young people are not to go into the staff room.

All of the doors and windows will have security locks on them to ensure you are safe

There is £7.00 service charge per week this will pay for the internet and some other items in the house. This will help you learn that to be independent you have to pay for things and when you are ready to move on, we can then reference that you have paid your service charge on time and each week. This will sometimes be a very good indication that you will pay you essential bills when you move onto independence

The doors to the property will be locked at all times with staff in the care of the door keys.

Local to the area

The  leisure centre is within easy reach to most of the houses. Some leisure centres have a swimming pool and very good gym facilities.

Local shops within walking distance

Regular bus route near the house into the town centre

Exceptionally good train links and station within walking distance

Schools and colleges within walking distance to the house

Your room

Young people can put posters on the wall within reason and must be with blue tack or something  that doesn’t stain or damage the wall paper or paint.

Its your room. Staff will have to go into your room to carry our safety checks and on the request of your social worker or other professionals like the police. We have to carry out fire safety checks, welfare checks and safety of electrical equipment. We would talk to you about when this was due to happen unless it was an emergency situation.

We expect you to keep your room tidy and this will be part of learning independence. Staff will support you to achieve this if needed.

What to expect from staff

Staff will work with you to gain some independence and life skills to aid you in the future. You will have a live in staff member at all times. You will also have a key worker. She/he will work on a one to one basis with you working on a range of things which will be tailored to meet your individual needs and requirements. Your staff will support you with shopping, budgeting skills and menu planning on a weekly basis. Live in staff will support you with cooking and using the kitchen equipment safely. You will be expected to clean after you have used the kitchen with support from staff.

Your key worker will complete a getting to know me when you first arrive. This will enable you and her to get to know each other. She will book you onto a local doctor, dentist etc

Staff will also complete a couple of other forms when you first arrive. One of them being an inventory. This is important as it will let the staff know what you came into placement with. Also, when you bring  new things into the house so we know these belong to you.

Staff are very friendly and trained to a high level. They will treat you with dignity and respect. They will expect the same from all of the young people in the house.

Sometimes there will be a staff member who comes into the house at night times this is called a night staff. Sometime they will stay awake to ensure that you are kept safe during the night whilst the day staff are sleeping and sometimes there are staff that will only wake when and if you need something this is called a sleeping night
